Reflections

Reflections are an art in themselves and can make an ordinary pose into a much more interesting image. Still water is normally a pre-requisite and good light will undoubtedly help. Careful thought to composing the image is time well spent.

Common Snipe

Sometimes a combination of good light and obliging birds come together. A couple of Common Snipe at Venus Pool seen during October 2009 preening and then basking in the shallow water. I like the way the ripple separates the real birds from their reflection and breaks the picture in two. Hope you don't get tired of seeing this one!

Grey Phalarope

A lovely obliging bird as most Grey Phalaropes are! This one was at Crosby Marine Lake in November 2009. From the 100's of shots, this simple swimming pose, nicely reflected is one of my favourite images from the session.

Green Sandpiper

Slight ripple imparts a surreal appearance to the reflected image and this Green Sandpiper close at Venus Pool in August 2008 appears to be admiring the reflection.....

Little Egret

Little Egret action is usually accompanied by water disturbance but this bird fishing from the bank at Venus Pool in August 2008 is frozen at the moment of spearing into the water after fish as yet unseen.....
