Parrot Crossbill (Loxia pytyopsittacus)
The largest (only just) of the Crossbills likely to be seen in the UK. The bill is the key distinguishing feature being deeper and proportionately shorter - hence Parrot shaped! The mandibles do not obviously cross as they do in Common/Scottish Crossbills. Two images from my only encounter with this species - at a puddle in Abernethy forest, (Highland) during May 2009.
