Dragonflies and Damselflies of Shropshire
This species occurs over a huge variety of habitats from heathland bogs to streams, pools or lakes and is on the wing during the months of June and July. Of medium size, the body is fatter than a darter yet slimmer than the Broad-bodied Chaser! The wings make this species unmistakable, each wing has two dark spots, also stained brown at the base. Both sexes are dark brown with yellow marks to the side of the abdomen. It is fiercely territorial and will perch for long periods in between feeding and repelling all comers!
